So what is everyone's favorite lip balm? My afforementioned lost $18 lip balm really didn't seem that good. I think I'm going to go back to Karite-Lips. It has organic tahitian vanilla AND shea butter. The only bad side is that for some reason or another only one out of three containers has the right consistency--some are chunky, some too greasy. In any case, it's the best. Does anyone else have suggestions?

Re: Lip Balm
Fri, November 7, 2003 - 11:36 AMIs that the stuff from L'Occitane? I have a container of that around here somewhere. Honestly, I try to resist lip balm because I feel like its bad for you or something. But then, last night, I was totally like "Oh, my lips totally are not kissable" and wished I had brought some. -

Moisturizing is very important
Fri, November 7, 2003 - 1:39 PMWell, it all depends on your lips, but I traditionally like to glob a heavy duty lip moisturizer, or conditioner on the lips for about five minutes and then blot the excess off. I then line lips, apply lipstick, and then gloss. But that's just me. If your lips are moisturized and kissably soft at the end of the day, then, hey! you can't be doing much wrong. But keep in mind that many of the chemicals and colors in gloss and lipstick can be very dehydrating.

Re: Lip Balm
Fri, November 7, 2003 - 1:46 PMNo, it's from Karite-company or something. The $18 stuff is from some doctor or something. If your lips feel unkissable, try this simple trick:
Cover your lips in vaseline, I mean, swab that shit around there. Take a hot washcloth and put it over your lips. Keep it there for 5-10 minutes. Take on old toothbrush and gently scrub the skin of your lips in small circular motions. It works, it really does, I swear to god. I do it every week. -

Re: Lip Balm
Sat, November 8, 2003 - 4:29 AMExfoliating your lips is a must! I use Kielh's #1--but I follow your regimen exactly Darren.
As for lip balms, if you want to feel heavier coverage, I'd recommend:
--Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
--L'Occitane Honey Shea Lip Balm
--Bare Escentuals Buzz Latte Balm
For a lighter balm (and some of my favorites):
--Naturopathica Honey & Vanilla Lip Blam
--Philosophy Hope In A Jar Lip Cream
--M4M Lip Balm
--Joey NY Delipcious in Margarita
--Tony & Tina Sensual Boost Lip Balm
--English Ideas Tea Tree or Grapefruit Balm
I have a drawer full of lip product. It's my heroin. -

Sun, November 9, 2003 - 5:48 PMThe best lip balm, in the world hands down, is called Labello -- they sell it in any drugstore in the world except for in the US. It's like German Chapstick. It's not oily. And it comes in like a million flavors from Chamomile to Grape. -

Re: Lip Balm
Mon, November 10, 2003 - 12:40 PMEgad. I feel like a cretin, too, as I simply use Carmex. I used to use something from the Body Shop, but they stopped that line. That and Anita Roddick is evidently Satan's long-lost daughter. Or so the rumor goes. -

Re: Lip Balm
Mon, November 10, 2003 - 3:42 PMOK, see, some lip balm is bad for you. . .Carmex is one of them, probably the worst. Camphor, Eucalyptus, peppermint oil, things like that, actually cause the lips to dry out more, creating a dependency on the product, kinda like most antacids.
And Miss Shannon, the lip exfoliating trick I was describing earlier is using your old toothbrush as an exfoliator vs. an actual exfoliating lip product. Once again, with those, it's generally overpriced and can damage your lips.

Re: Lip Balm
Mon, November 10, 2003 - 11:27 PMI had a special mini-iron lung unit custom made for me by a group of Swiss dermatologists, which clips to my lips and provides full oxidation and moisturizing service. It's actually quite handy, and as a special bonus provides me with that all-important bee-stung look.
