Febreeze will only make the stain smell better. If you wanna be hardcore about it, rent a wet-vac from the local grocery or hardware store - otherwise, if it doesn't seem like too daunting a task and you don't have the bucks for a wet-vac, there's always the option of a hot bucket of soapy water and a scrub brush. I think you can get wet/dry dustbusters, too - that might be helpful.

I used to have a light carpet, and found that Oxy-Clean worked well. You can pick it up and linens-n-things. Of course, there's probably not one in San Francisco. But other stores may carry it.

I've used Resolve before but I think that Oxy-Clean is supposed to be better.

All of this is contingent on the type and nature of the stain. Is it a new stain? Food? Wine? Bong water?

dirty police officer mud tracked into apartment. there was a dramatic break-in at my house last night and when the cops arrived at the scene they were very nice but they had dirty feetsies (not feces, feetsies).

what is this oxy stuff? i think i will call the hardware store near my house re; a wet vac.

I think they sell Oxy-Clean at Target. I'm sure they'd have it at Vons or Ralphs or whatever. But don't even think about crossing those picket lines, girl!

never fear, comrade g. - i actually walked several blocks out of my way IN THE RAIN to not cross a picket line at safeway the other night so i wont start doing it now.

Oh, god -- be careful about OxyClean. Yeah it works great but it's basically like really acidic bleach.

You're supposed to do a colorfast test before you use it and generally I do not heed such warning, but if you fuck up a carpet your pretty much screwed.

                    It's basicallly a powered verision of DiDi-7.

If you've got a gooey stain in there, like bubble gum or glue, try Goo-Gone. I think most hardware stores sell it. My supermarket has it in the hardware section. It's great for removing ugly price stickers from CD cases etc.
